melt version 0.5.0,
$ melt foo.mlt -filter mono:1
seems to play at the right fps, but the audio is shifted down, kinda
sounds like it is playing at 1/2 speed. 2 sounds fine, 3 is high pitch
as if playing fast. 0 is scratchy static.

I am a confused by the syntax, I expected to need -filter
mono:channels=1 given my xml is

<filter mlt_service="mono" channels="1" />
which is where I first found the lower pitch.

encoding to a file, then playing the file gives slightly different but still messed up results
-consumer avformat:foo.flac
-consumer avformat:ffoo.mp4

    This no longer reproduces. You do not want to give this a parameter value of 1 if the consumer is running in stereo. Generally, you do not want to give it any parameter value. It downmixes and outputs the number of channels requested by the consumer without supplying any parameters.
