#153 if using swfdec cannot play some .swf files

No

I have a "Macromedia Flash Video" .swf file which content begins with "FLV".

The 'meld' app freezes (same as Openshot which uses MLT) when I try to open the file if the following conditions are met:
- I have swfdec (and had it during compilaton of MLT),
- --enable-swfdec was used.

If MLT is compiled without "swfdec" option, it IS able to open that file (thanks to another option, ffmpeg).

Expected behaviour: melt and apps using MLT shouldn't freeze when such a file is opened (in that state melt even ignores SIGINT).
Possible fix: maybe it should detect and ignore such files and try ffmpeg or something, but not swfdec, or handle swfdec failure to decode the file.

I need sample file to reproduce the problem. I doubt I will be able to detect what is going to cause a problem under swfdec, but I can take a look. Since swfdec is no longer maintained, I might choose to disable the swfdec plugin by default and only allow an explicit --enable-swfdec configure option for those that want it.

    Thanks for the reply.
    maybe that's related: http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/swfdec/2008-July/001755.html
the error message I get previous to that nasty app freeze is:
    SWFDEC: ERROR: swfdec_resource.c(244): swfdec_resource_stream_target_parse: no
    decoder found for format
SWFDEC: ERROR: swfdec_as_context.c(168): swfdec_as_context_abort: abort: This
    is not a Flash file

example file, made using Openshot if I remember correctly: dl.dropbox.com/u/779782/temp/wyd.swf

MLT version: 0.7.8 and a few previous ones
    swfdec version: 0.8.4

Thanks, got it, and I looked into this. It will take a lot of work to figure out how to use the swfdec API to validate files. Instead, MLT has a way of trying multiple plugins. For swf, I changed its order from swfdec, avformat to avformat, swfdec. I found that my simple Flash animations would fail to be loaded by avformat (fail its validation) and would then be loaded by swfdec. Then, for your example with FLV, avformat will load it.

    Fixed in git commit f61c59db3c569f33300fcf356747924a74a052c4.
I will close this bug on the next release.
