#42 floppy eventually mounts, but doesn't work

When I insert a floppy, it makes odd buzzing/clicking noises for 5mns. or so; it then appears on my desktop (OSX 10.23). When I try to double-click on the floppy to open it, the computer locks up for another 5mns. or so, and then the floppy icon disappears. Trying to access the floppy through Terminal has similar effects:

[MyHD:/Volumes/untitled] root# mkdir folder
mkdir: folder: Input/output error

I'm using a PowerMac 7600/120, with a MAXPowr G3/220 upgrade, and the XPostFacto patch app. I have checked this drive and floppy in OS9, so I know it works. My e-mail is achallenger1@hotmail.com .
