Last day I got in contact with the developer of Audacity, too.

They agreed, that Vorbis Ogg become very fast, very populare in the
Open Source comunity "I expect that open source software will start adopt=
ing=20
Ogg codecs very quickly now" With this codec is it possible to use lower=20
bitrats. One topic on the developer mailing list is lossless editing.
To save time and original quality, unchanged parts of an ogg-file
should expored originaly. This would be nice for internetstreams, too.

Imangine one independent journalist is making recordings somewere
in the world. If data-transfere is expencive he would codect it in 32 Kbi=
t/s
Mono with Vorbis Ogg (sound still great!) if the station would cut it,
they should use Audacity with lossless editing.
The studio should use  lossless broadcasting to create an vorbis
ogg stream. Even listners to a 96KBit/s stream should get the original
32 Kbit/s without reconverting and blow-up.=20

So I see a need for a broadcast-mixing-engine that is open for
multiple sources and formates (wav, ogg, mp3). This engine shound
decode all and mix it - giving it to soundcard and a codec for an internt=
et
stream.
But if only one input-source is deliver on OGG-stream, this is send to th=
e
internet-stream direcly. Maybe switching would be hearable, because
the decoder is using > 20 ms. Than must be the delayed the direct stream
by > 20 ms before switching.

There programs without using a microphone (playlist, rebroadcast)
programs with using a microphone without automatisations
and program with timed automatisation.

So I see a need for >3 sort of broadcasting frontends,
but for all this "lossless directstream" would be important.=20

Whats your  ideas to this?
Would you welcome such an general broadcasting-mixing-engine?
Would you support it?
