I have started using the AOL IM module to send remote notifications from MH, like Caller ID, Garage Door open, etc. Here's the code I use: if ($config_parms{net_aim_name}) { &net_im_send(text => $infobox_line); I have noticed that after a while, the messages don't get to me, even though the log says they are going out. I can even send a message to the still-logged-on MH IM user, but it doesn't respond, though the exchange is correct in the log file shows that MH received the message, and sent a reply. Here's an example from the log file (I was not receiving messages at the time): 10/30/02 01:09:43 PM IM: pgm=AOL, to=rbeclaredi, text=?, response=Unauthorized access for command display call with -tk 0. Text=text rbeclaredi (13:09:43:43): ? time 0 title AOL window_name AOL append bottom Sending aim message to rbeclaredi Any Ideas? Ryan Erickson mis...@er... http://www.ericksonfamily.com P.S. By the way, what else can I do with the AIM stuff? Is there a menu I can setup somewhere? |

The AIM code that we currently have implemented is not fully robust, from what I have seen. There are errors which it can report, which we are not responding to properly. It can request that we 'renew' the connection, and if so, this may be our problem. It also has limits on how frequent a connection attempt can be made, and will put you into a 'time-out' mode if you attempt to connect too often. There is a perl script at http://www.dreamscape.org/code/sol which appears to handle these situations, and I have been planning to work on the AIM stuff to make it more robust. If anyone else wants to attack this, feel free. :-) Tim -----Original Message----- From: mis...@li... I've been doing the same thing lately, but it has been working fine for me. As Tim suggested, maybe your meesages are too long or too frequent and somehow that triggers some sort of ignore flag on the AIM servers? I only send a few 1-2 line meesages an hour. How long and frequent are your messages? Maybe when that happens you could try logging in (via the web browser) and run 'disconnect from aol', then 'connect to aol' (or 'send a test aol message' will also reconnect) to see if that gets you back up. > P.S. By the way, what else can I do with the AIM stuff? Is > there a menu I can setup somewhere? Not currently. Figured real im clients would be best if you want to manually send/receive. Sending house events to work is pretty fun, as long as you can keep your work client from poping up too often (I set my gaim linux client to not raise window on event, only beep). Bruce |
