First of all: sorry to the people on the announce list. What follows is not really a big announcement...
I'm all new to misterhouse (and to its lists I should add :) and almost as new to homeautomation and want to set it up on my linuxbox (Suse 7.2).
Installation went fine and running the stuff under root also works. Now I want to run mh with a dedicated user and set up my directories for code, data web etc. The problem I face is that mh doesn't want to pick up my own version of the mh.ini file called /home/mhuser/misterhouse/mh.test.ini. I have set the variable mh_parms=/home/mhuser/misterhouse/mh.test.ini and it is accessible to the shell (bash). But whatever I write or change in mh.test.ini it is ignored. And mh then fails because my mhuser doesn't have the write privilige under /usr where the default data and log files are written.
I have gone through most of the archives for this list and all I have found seems to support my setup, i.e. I should not modify the original mh/bin/mh.ini but copy it to my own .ini file and point to it with the mh_parms variable.
So before starting on a workaround I would be happy to have some experienced advice on what I'm doing wrong. In return I might write a condensed version on how to set up misterhouse. Now I found the information a bit spread out (and apparently I'm still missing something...)
Thanks in advance.
