Hi all! I finished most of the changes I personally wanted from get_tv_grid, so it's now available for download if you'd like to try them out. I tried to write up all the important bits on the web page, but there might be errors somewhere, so please let me know if you come across something that I need to change. If this works out well, I'd like this to be added to the main branch of code, but I don't know how we go about doing that. I'd definitely appreciate any testing y'all are willing to do to let me know what kinks I still have to work out. http://members.tripod.com/mister_tom/ - Tom |

BCK between chair and keyboard was using () and not {} ooops -----Original Message----- From: misterhouse-users-admin@... [mailto:misterhouse-users-admin@...]On Behalf Of Bruce Winter Sent: Friday, February 08, 2002 10:13 PM To: 'Misterhouse-Users' Subject: RE: [misterhouse-users] RE: Volume question Fix.. Are you sure the problem is caused by the 2 lines (listed below)? Does it go away if you comment them out? Do you get the error on startup? I tried them here and they work fine. $::var or $var should be the same in user code ($:: points to variables in the 'main' package, which is already where all the user code is). Bruce -----Original Message----- It maybe as simple as adding a double colon before config_params, ie $::config_parms{sound_volume} = 40 if time_now '8 pm'; Hope this helps. ... Fixed the typo but still getting the explicit issue. ... Tried that ,,, getting Global symbol $config_params requries explicit package name at eval.... ... Try this: $config_parms{sound_volume} = 40 if time_now '8 pm'; $config_parms{sound_volume} = 100 if time_now '7 am'; Bruce ________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe from this list, go to: http://sourceforge.net/mail/?group_id=1365 |

So I probably know less perl than you (I try pretty hard not to learn it).... I'm pretty sure Borland has made freely available a C compiler that may be useful for you. This site may be useful in parallel port programming. Finally, I'm assuming you're not going to drive the relay directly from the parallel, right? Hi Clive, I'm testing a new version of button.pl with support for the on / off butto= ns for controlling your light added, great advantage is that it also displays oth= er states +40 - 20 etc not just on/off (thats one of the advantages of using the GD button= routine..) Alrighty, A week ago I asked it there was any way to read and write to the parallel port like the serial port. The response was that it could not be done like a serial port. So, I, have to find other ways. What I have here is a little bit of code I found on the internet and a DLL also. The code goes like this: use Win32::API; #load API module to interface DLL's $GetPortVal= new Win32::API("inpout32", "Inp32", [I], I); #import Inp32 from DLL $SetPortVal= new Win32::API("inpout32", "Out32", [I,I], I); #import Out32 from DLL $input= $GetPortVal->Call(0x378) & 255; #get and display current value of address 378 hex print "$input\n"; $return=$SetPortVal->Call(0x378,35); #set pins 2,3,7 $input= $GetPortVal->Call(0x378) & 255; #get and display updated value of address 378 hex print "$input\n"; So, since I know hardley anything about what I am doing, I need some help. If I use this code exactly, mh, returns; Cannot use bareword "I" while strict subs. If I put ' ' these around both I's it returns the value of 255. But the number 255 is not the actual number that is there. I know this by running a QBasic program that looks like this; n=inp($H378) Print n it would return the value of the parallel port that I actully set it to. I am not sure if the ' ' actually chage somethime major withe the code. More Information is available at http://www.lvr.com/jansfaq.htm The whole reason I want to know this is that I am trying to control 12V relays with the parallel port. I could make a simple QBasic program that would read the address and return it to perl, but, I have no way to compile it. I have searched the net for information with parallel ports and perl, but, there is none available. ( atleast I could not find it) If anyone has the spare time to give me help, please let me know. Thank You Larry Roudebush |

OK my poor english again, let me diagram the way I'll have it done RF->BX24->COMPUTER to receive RF on the computer RF->BX24->CM11A to send RF command on the wire Beside the DB9 connection to the PC, there is 3 external serial port for the CM11A, LCD, etc... and either COMPUTER->CM11A to send misterhouse X11 on the wire (with another CM11A) COMPUTER->CM17->BX24->CM11A because I only have 1 CM11A The BX24 replace all the MR26A you could have in the house The LynX10 could be another way to replace the UX17A, never work with it. And it's probably simpler. > > Other than that, this looks like an 'interesting' device; if for no > other reason than all of the external interfaces it provides. > > Clay Jackson > > > -----Original Message----- > From: misterhouse-users-admin@... > [mailto:misterhouse-users-admin@...] On Behalf Of > Gaetan linny Lord > Sent: Tuesday, February 12, 2002 10:33 PM > To: Jeff Burricelli > Cc: Misterhouse > Subject: Re: [misterhouse-users] Misterhouse and IR > > If you're looking for a UX17A replacement, I just finish building the > BX24-AHT > project, and have some issue with the device and linux, but the gizmo is > working > very well. > > Basically, this is a UX17A replacement. Not a perfect way to do it, but one solution is to run Apache with the proxy module. We use this to give https to Outlook WEB Access in work via a Linux box. Since at least RedHat 7.x comes with HTTPS support out of the box it is very easy to set up. Ok, it takes up extra resources on your WEB server, but by tuning Apache you can remove any modules not needed to reduce memory usage. If anyones interested, I can post a apache config file for proxying to a HTTPS connection for MH. Regards, Thomas -----Original Message----- From: misterhouse-users-admin@... There are two perl packages (Net::SSLeay and Crypto::SSLeay) that are plugins for creating SSL connections using the LWP library. However, Perl and OpenSSL are both complicated and both constantly changing, so the code isn't as stable as I'd like for a long-running server like misterhouse. Interesting - but, IMHO, there are a few issues with this: 1) The latency from RF->BX24->CM11->MH->Firecracker->BX24->CM11->X10 Device is gonna be pretty severe. I think the MR26A makes a much better RECIEVER, especially if modified to add the antenna 2) The CM11 is a LOUSY device! As with all X10 stuff, you get what you pay for. In the case of linux, the perl module Audio::Mixer is used. This gets called anytime you do a speak or a play, even if you don't have a speak engine installed. Are you using mh without a speech engine?? What fun is that :) Bruce |

No, sorry. Someone quite a while back mentioned they might be onto the secrets to programing, but I never heard back from them. If the ir codes are in a database that is transfered to the UX17A, programing them with non X10 software would be a trick. If they are stored in the UX17A and programing simply selects which to use, it might be pretty easy. X10 never published any info on this, so I don't know which case we are dealing with. I've had my mail suspended for a couple months, but have nosed around in the archives at sourceforge. Haven't yet seen anything definitive about this, so here goes. I have two linux boxes, both have mh2.64 on them. Box #1 responds correctly tothe test_x10 script in mh/bin. Using the same exact test_x10 file on Box #2, I get the bad checksum error messages. The serial "card" is installed -- ie:, physically pressed into the COM1 port on the mobo of Box #2. Obviously the CM11 works :) setserial -a /dev/ttyS0 returns the same info for both machines, so I'm at a loss here. Anyone have suggestions? I'm not really familiar with debugging hardware issues under Linux, so if there are tools I can use to test ttyS0, I gladly welcome suggestions. Thanks. -Holly |
