Good new is you can have both. :-) Right now I have my Linux box listening to the Vera (the other devices have tests for the connectivity and I haven't gotten any further). I would think the proper way to talk to Mochad is to have a permanent TCP/IP connection. That way you get updates from Mochad. I think I have the talking to and the listening to part down. Now I just need to add the telling the device part and the error handling.
