Cacti does take a little while to learn but if you are serious in logging temperatures/power and do mixed graphs with that data, this is really the way to go. Cacti uses rrdtool for the database which in my case I configured not to delete data (i.e. I have 1 or 5mn resolution for 30 years, which is about 1GB for 20 samples). This is not how it's meant to be used, but it works fine that way :) cacti was specifically my choice over other options because it lets you zoom on an arbitratry time range in the past, which few other options let you do.
