The internet weather all passing through the common module is the better practice (but harder to understand for someone just wanting to get something simple to work) for making code modules independent so that sources and users can be interchanged. -----Original Message----- From: JimMH [mailto:jsk...@sb...] Sent: July 26, 2009 8:46 AM To: mis...@li... Subject: [mh] Control of source of weather elements? Writing code for Lacrosse weather station... I have been looking at how weather is handled from various sources, both internet and local weather stations. There is a variable 'use_internet_weather' that is (was?) meant to enable internet values. But most code for getting internet weather does not seem to use this but instead uses weather_internet_elements, weather_internet_elements_aws... which allow control of individual elements. And they seem to avoid use of weather hash elements for internet data such as $Weather{TempInternet}. Is this the case? If so is there any need to worry about weather elements for internet data? I am working on code to use a Lacrosse 23xx series weather station and was thinking of using a similar method to control what elements were populated in the weather hash. But this does not seem to be set up to handle indoor measurements - makes sense since the internet wouldn't have anything even close to those. It appears most weather station code is just hard coded to populate the available or desired variables and the internet code modules can be controlled as to what they populate to fill in any others. I also saw in weather_common.pm that weather_updated should be called after updating weather - most internet retrieval code does but most weather station code does not. Shouldn't the local weather code also do this. I guess this only really matters if it is never called and you are interested in the variables it calculates based on given variables. Just looking for a little guidance on the general philosophy of how these should work together.
