I haven't tried using MH to control iTunes, but my guess is that the easiest way to do it is to create and execute an AppleScript within the perl code. For example, here's a simple perl script that will play a random song from your iTunes library: #!/usr/bin/perl $applescript = <<DONE; tell application "iTunes" tell source "Library" tell playlist "Library" set myTrack to some track play myTrack end tell end tell end tell DONE `osascript -e '$applescript'`; Another approach would be to just use an AppleScript as a CGI script. Check out acgi dispatcher at http://www.sentman.com/acgi/ There's an sample script for controlling iTunes with the acgi dispatcher distribution.
