I read that star topologies were bad, yet it works fine for me. I have two runs of (mostly) cat5 with 2 or 3 sensors along each wire. I was planning on plugging them into two separate one wire interfaces on different COM ports, but when I used a phone line splitter to put both legs on the same circuit, it worked fine. I added a third leg using another splitter and it still works. Maybe you will get lucky too. I reccommend using the ibutton application with its list of detectable sensors to debug your network. If you have the wires reversed of one sensor, it will take down most or all of your network until you fix it. And here's one that caused some head-scratching- some phone cords (which I used for extensions and splicing) flip polarity of the conductors, while other don't! -Jason |
