Is anyone using MH and the digital IO boards as a security system for your home? I'm thinking of doing just that... as the sensor side of a security system.. and possibly the pro x10 dialer with monitoring for the response part.. I'm building a house and am going to wire it up for all sorts of automation and whole house a/v.. but I'm new to MH... I've been testing it.. learning to write code for it.. and I've gotten it working with x10 through a cm11a.. and to talk to the weeder board.. it all seems fairly straight forward.. but I'm wondering if using it for security is perhaps too much to ask... Personally I don't see much value in spending the kind of money it would take for a 'professional' security system that can do everything this setup could do... and with the monitoring service it certainly seems like it would be just as good... but I'm new to mh as I said... and when it gets into actual use it might not be suitable as a security system... What do you all think? I'm running under linux.. I'm testing on a 233 box but plan a faster one for production use... probably 500 to 800mhz with plenty of ram.. I'm using via voice for TTS... but no VR... and I work with linux professionally... so I know how to setup and maintain a box.. I'd like to hear from some veteran mh users on your comfort level in using it in this way... Jared |
