This can be added to the main branch.  I have only been adding i2 specific items to Michael's code. If it doesn't directly relate to i2, I send it to the main branch.  I think Michael has been doing the same.

Michael/Kevin, are you able to add this to your branch, or should this be
added to the main trunk, and you'll merge later?
