Here are some issues you may run into and how to solve them.

MIST gives this error: "There was a problem connecting to the email server."

Verify that...

  • You are connected to the internet
  • Your email server, port, username and password are entered correctly
    • If you're using Google's 2-step verification, you need to set up an application-specific password for MIST. Find out more information here.
  • Your email server supports SSL connections (you may need to ask your System Administrator or Internet Service Provider if you're not sure.)
  • You have created an email folder for MIST to connect to (see Setting up your email account above.)
  • If you use Avast! Antivirus, try disabling the SSL Mail Shield Settings by following these steps:
    1. Open Avast!
    2. Select the "Security" tab
    3. Select "Mail Shield"
    4. Select "Settings" toward the right.
    5. Select "SSL scanning"
    6. Disable "Scan SSL connections"
    7. Select "OK"

In Gmail I can see all the messages, but MIST is only downloading some of them.
