Greg:

I have trouble running the Count WWWebula plug-in 1.2
with WebSTAR 3.0.1. It'll run fine for a few days on my
Q700, then crash with "Memory Err" in the activity pane
of the main window. The computer is frozen hard (no
mouse movement, even) and I have to restart it.

Any ideas what I can do to make this better, or what
information you need to troubleshoot this? Many thanks!

    Greg:

I am trying to use the CountWWWebula plug-in with
WebSTAR 3.0.2 on a Quadra 700, 20 MBytes RAM, and
    MacOS 8.1.

I have dedicated this machine to running the counter plug-in,
and, as it has a couple hundred .dat files, it's excruciatingly
    slow with the 1.2 plug-in.

I have tried upgrading to the 1.5.1 plugin, but it crashes
consistently (error -2) upon receiving the first request to
display a counter. The error log file is empty.

In the past, I have had two sets of reports in the log file:

    1) When using the 1.2 plug-in, I had a regular sequence of
    log events like this:

    ---------------------------
    Friday, 21 January, 2000 02:50:57 PM
*Log String: Access denied to referer
    ---------------------------
    Friday, 21 January, 2000 02:50:57 PM
    *Error In File: LogUtil.c
    *Error On Line: 0
    LogStringAndSeparator: theString is NULL
    @?

#2: when I freshly installed (misinstalled) Count WWWebula
1.5.1, I got the following in the error log file. (I had forgotten to
drag the digitdir folder and the four .gifs into the Counter Data
    Files folder.)

    ---------------------------
    1.5.1
    Wednesday, 29 March, 2000 10:29:29 PM
    *Error In File: CCounter.cp
    *Error On Line: 0
    *Error Code: -43
*Error String: The specified font folder wasn't found, make
sure it's in the 'Counter Data Files' folder
    digitdir
    ---------------------------
    1.5.1
    Wednesday, 29 March, 2000 10:29:29 PM
    *Error In File: MyCGIProcess.c
    *Error On Line: 0
    *Error Code: -43
*Error String: Trouble with trying to create the ProblemImage
    =====================

Do either of these offer clues to the problem? Are there other
experiments you'd like me to perform? Many thanks!

    Greg,

    Re: Trying the CGI:

Interesting thought. I'll give it a try, but I'm kind of busy these
    days, so my
    report may take a while.

One other question, have you tried using the CGI instead? I'm
    wondering if this
    will help or not...

I think I responded to this, but I'll send it again. I did crank up
VM, and it made no difference.

Ok, it's just running out of memory, the stupid thing is that it
    definitely
shouldn't crash because of this, mark this down as definitely
    my fault. And the
crash is definitely count-wwwebula. The current resource fork
    is wwwebula, and
the last 20 or so procedures were webula. At the time of the
    crash it looks
    like there's about 15k free.

What about turning on virtual memory to bump it up a touch?
    (make sure to leave
at least 1 meg free for all applications to use).
