I'm trying to break up the big samsung patch from randomcore/anduras into small chunks, update it for the latest minidlna versions and bring them in one by one to get in the changes which work for all TVs to avoid the issues with original patch that breaks older samsung TVs or blu ray players.
This patch has the support for bookmarks or the resume support. So, when you stop watching a file and then go back to it again, it will give you an option to resume from previously stopped position by pressing the "D" key on the remote.
This patch has been modified from it's original version so that it applies cleanly against the minidlna v 1.0.21 or even the current cvs trunk (as of 4 august 2011)
I've tested it to work fine against my LA40C550 TV. Please provide feedback for other samsung TVs and blu ray players

Applied to 1.0.21. Does not appear to work.
I get the prompt, but pressing the D key just takes me back to the beginning.

Applied patch to 1.0.21 - Woks 100% on my Samsung C650
Does NOT work on my Samsung HT-C5500 Home Theatre

PS. nxnw, did you remove or rebuild your old Database?

Thanks for starting this work. It's much easier to deal with when the patches are smaller and safer. The original patch had some bugs in it, and I'd rather take a slightly different approach to this one, so I reworked a good chunk of it. Can you guys please try out the patch I just posted? It should also do a graceful database schema update, so it won't require a full database rescan. Thanks!

    stopped working!
I'm pretty sure all I did after I tested was copy the fresh minidlna.conf file from the new download.

    1. OK. Without doing or changing anything since I reported last night, the resume started working again. Same files. ??
    My Book Live, Samsung C7000

    2. Resume does not work with my Samsung BDC-5900 blu-ray player.

    3. Also, in my configuration, if I put a file named "folder.jpg" into a folder, the folder does not use the jpg, but it is applied to all of the files in the folder. Same result for both the C7000 and the BDC-5900.

    Hi nxnw
It seems that the resume function has been left out on the blu-ray players and home theatres.
We need to get Samsung to update there firmware, so the same features are available on the TV, players and home theatres.

I suppose I should probably remove the changelog entry about folder art. I think it will just confuse people. The reason I hadn't implemented it before is I didn't find any clients that would use it. But one user recently pointed out that XBMC does use it. So basically, we now expose it to the clients, but I only know of XBMC that will actually use it.

    Hi Justin
I like the idea of the folder art, but it seems that Samsung does not support it...pity

Hi everyone, with some help of shantanu goel and the patch of Justin, everything works perfect about bookmarking. I have My Book Live and Samsung C650. Just for the record I used the command "patch < samsung-bookmark-2.patch".

Okay, well from the responses I've seen, I'm satisfied with the patch. I just committed it to CVS and will be included in 1.0.22. Thanks everybody!

The new patch from Justin works great for me.. but I noticed the same issue that bookmarking stops working sometimes out of the blue (happens even with the patch that i attached).. Maybe this is a Samsung firmware problem because it starts working again sometimes if I rebuild the database but some other times just rebuilding doesn't work and I have to switch on and switch off the TV

It also happened to me. It just started working again, without me doing anything to minidlna. The TV was turned off and on in the interim, however.

Is it possible to add a patch so one can select the audio language for mkv files with multiple tracks on Samsung TVs?
