    Hi all,
    does the original minidlna supports folder.jpg files?

    This is my minidlna.cong file

        media_dir=/home/0empty
        media_dir=P,/home/0common/FotoFamiglia
        media_dir=A,/home/0common/MusicaFamiglia
        media_dir=V,/home/0common/VideoFamiglia
        # port for HTTP (descriptions and SOAP) traffic
        port=8200
        # set this to the directory you want scanned.
        # * if have multiple directories, you can have multiple media_dir= lines
        # * if you want to restrict a media_dir to a specific content type, you
        #   can prepend the type, followed by a comma, to the directory:
        #   + "A" for audio  (eg. media_dir=A,/home/jmaggard/Music)
        #   + "V" for video  (eg. media_dir=V,/home/jmaggard/Videos)
        #   + "P" for images (eg. media_dir=P,/home/jmaggard/Pictures)
        # set this if you want to customize the name that shows up on your clients
        friendly_name=Stora:UPNP-AV
        # this should be a list of file names to check for when searching for album art
        # note: names should be delimited with a forward slash ("/")
        album_art_names=Cover.jpg/cover.jpg/AlbumArtSmall.jpg/albumartsmall.jpg/AlbumArt.jpg/albumart.jpg/Album.jpg/album.jpg/Folder.jpg/folder.jpg/Thumb.jpg/thumb.jpg
        # set this to no to disable inotify monitoring to automatically discover new files
        # note: the default is yes
        inotify=yes
        # set this to yes to enable support for streaming .jpg and .mp3 files to a TiVo supporting HMO
        # default presentation url is http address on port 80
        #presentation_url=http://www.mylan/index.php
        # notify interval in seconds. default is 30 seconds.
        notify_interval=900
        # serial and model number the daemon will report to clients
        # in its XML description
        serial=12345678
        model_number=1
        enable_tivo=no

    I see that in album_art_names parameter the folder.jpg file is included but I'm not able to see the image browsing in stora.
    I can see the NameFile.jpg files but not the folder.jpg files.
    I use WD Live TV and stora firmware version is 2.5.1
    Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    I'm not certain, but Stora might be using an older version of minidlna that had a shorter string limit for the album_art_names setting.  Try moving the folder.jpg entries to the beginning of the list and see if that helps.

    BTW, you'll likely need to force a rescan after doing that.

    Thanks for your answer.
    I can try it, thanks.
    Do you think that this issue is solved in last miniDLNA version? In case I could try to update stora version.

    Just for clarify.
    What I would like to obtain is something like this

    all of them are folders, in every folder there is a folder.jpg image.
    e.g. in "24" folder there is a folder.jpg file with 24 icon
    in "alias" folder there is a folder.jpg file with alias icon

    All media servers have this feature so I suppose minidlna too but it is not working for me

    Yes, the issue with the string length limit is fixed in the latest minidlna version.  If you are able to compile the latest source code for the Stora platform, that should work.  If not, please post back here.

    I checked my version, it is .18 version.
    Then I changed my config file in order to move folder.jpg file at beginning of album_art_names parameter and rescan again.

    Now I have this situation:
    no folder image
    all the files in a folder have the same image of folder.jpg

    e.g. in "Series" folder I see always the same icon for all serie folder, but if I enter in "Heroes" folder I see all files having the folder.jpg icon.

    It is not what I'm looking for.
    I need the folder.jpg image associated to "Heroes" folder as in image I attached before.

    I still haven't understood if it is possible with minidlna and it is only a problem for me.
    Could you please try to put a folder.jpg image in one of your folder?

    Many thanks for your help

    p.s. I will update my minidlna version if it solve this issue, otherwise I prefer to avoid it.

    Okay, I haven't seen a DLNA/UPnP client that would actually use album art for folders, but I haven't used XBMC in quite some time.  I'll try to load up XBMC and try it out soon.  But it sounds like updating won't help in your case.

    It is not only a xbmc feature.
    All media servers have it.
    Before stora (and miniDLNA) I had a lot of media server softwares on my pc and all of them have this feature.

    Is it possible to suggest this as a future improvement to miniDLNA developers group?

    I found the "feature request" area and sumbitted it.
    I also found a support request for the same issue.

    Hi all.
    I think I have found the solution.
    I read the code and I think it would be enough the following modify:

    In scanner.c file, in insert_directory method replace the row
    detailID = GetFolderMetadata(name, path, NULL, NULL, NULL);
    with
    album_art = find_album_art(path, NULL, 0);
    detailID = GetFolderMetadata(name, path, NULL, album_art );

    Could some developer please insert it in file and test it?
    It should be a very quick test.
    Thanks

    Obviously the new code is

    char * album_art;
    album_art = find_album_art(path, NULL, 0);
    detailID = GetFolderMetadata(name, path, NULL, NULL, album_art );[/code]

    If you grab the latest code from CVS today, I have added this functionality.

    Can't get this to work…I placed a folder.jpg icon inside a subdirectory , forced a rescan but it won't show up.
    This is with last minidlna cvs 22/8 on dns-320 nas and samsung c670 tv.
    thanks

    Yeah, unfortunately this is a feature with very limited scope.  I have yet to find a client besides XBMC that will actually use the folder images.  But we do expose them now in case the client decides to use them.

    Same here, what am i missing?
    Place .jpg in folder i want to show, but i still get a blank folder.

    Movies with same name .jpg show perfect.

    So, at the moment this is only for XBMC?

  • Justin Maggard

    AFAIK, only XBMC uses it, but I don't have many clients to test with.  We do expose the images according to spec though, so perhaps some day some of the other client manufacturers will start using it.

  • Anonymous - 2011-08-22

    Thanks for clarifying this, jim.
    I presume Samsung needs to read the spec sometimes…
    :p

    and just sayin'.. the client of my android smartphone (upnplay) really shows the folder icon.. but it won't stream but that't another story.
    cheers

    I installed an ubuntu distribution, then installed xbmc and tryed to compile the new cvs.
    All seems ok and I'm able to see the folder images.

    Now I have to take courage and replace the stora minidlna version.
    Many thanks
