#167 Video list in alphabetical order

i'm using MiniDLNA an my homeserver to stream Videos to the Panasonic Viera TV.
In Viera Menu i can select the MiniDLNA Server and then navigate to videos.
But all video-files are sorted by date. I can't switch to sort them alphabetically. Any suggestions how to change media sorting on Panasonic TVs?
There is no setting for sorting the files on V, so i need an option to force alphapetical sorting.

Please help.

This is a client side option. I'd suggest you ask in a Panasonic TV forum.

Unfortunately there are a couple of clients I've run across that don't have a sorting option, and don't request a sort order. I have just added forced sorting support for Panasonic, but I don't have a Panasonic device to test with. So please try the latest code in CVS and see if that fixes it for you.

After experiencing the same annoying sorting issue on my Panasonic TV (VT50) and reading about a fix, I upgraded to 1.1.0. But that didn't help (me).

The logfile revealed that - after friendly exchange of SortCapabilities - the TV is asking EXPLICITLY for a sort by DATE: "+upnp:class,+dc:date"
    See attachment for details.

Hacking the 'parse_sort_criteria' function (in upnpsoap.c) to ignore the 'dc:date' instruction got me what I want: sort by title.
(No need to set the sort order explicitly; the 'tiebreaker' in the same function will take care of that.)

What I did is not a solution, of even worthy of a work-around patch.
Maybe it is possible to get a config file option that allows the server to simply ignore the requested sort order (and sort by title).

I have a Panasonic device to test with, but was a bit unsure of what was required in order to test it.

I was eventually able to locate the change that had been made, but unfortunately, I have the same problem as Wouters - the TV is asking for the list ordered by Date, but there is no option in my TV to change this ... I know, bad Panasonic :-(.

So, I also think it would be a great config file option :-).

For anyone else looking, the change that was made will ensure that a sort order by title is used if the Panasonic client does not specify one. However, if the Panasonic client specifies a sort order, then it is honoured and is not overridden/forced. Your device's behaviour is most easily verified by running the application in debug mode (with the -d option) and examining the trace.
