I want to try out minibian. My Pi is headless. I downloaded the image from 2015-02-18, verified the md5sum, dd'd it over to a 1G SD card and from what I can tell, the Pi booted fine. What did not work was to log in via ssh. I can ping the box and ports 22 and 631 are open and responsive. "ssh root@$IP" was responded to by a password-request. But neither raspberry, raspbian or hexxeh did it. What am I missing?

Turns out this was a different computer on the network. My mistake. Sorry.

The Pi as such is not requesting an IP via DHCP even when connected over ethernet cable. How can I get it to do that?

https://minibianpi.wordpress.com/setup/ says the default user is root and default password is raspberry. And indeed, I retried today and things worked just fine.

Thank you and sorry for the noise.

well - As there haven't been any reply, not much noise about the topic - BUT:

I'm having same problems - Rasmberry Pi 2 boots like a charn - but can't login with "root" and password "raspberry" - I tried via SSH and directly on keybord as I'ts a fully equipped PI
