I saw your recent post buried in the DIRCOLORS thread that addresses this topic.
The gvim launching workaround (with the appropriate shell path defined to vim)
works for me.
Actually I couldn't get "start" to work with my gvim executable the same way
you mentioned, but launching it without "start" seemed fine.
