I am biased, because I run several long running number crunching programs
which take days, weeks, and sometimes months to finish running.
A 30% performance gain by using "-O3" makes a big difference to me.
Also, its hard to motivate myself to write clean, smart, efficient, and
readable code if I know the compiler with "-O0" is going to butcher the
compilation and produce a sloppy EXE file with all kinds of inefficiencies.
A nice compromise is to have "-O3" as the default, and the programmer
can turn off "-O3" temporarily to do debugging.
Its only my humble opinion.
