I was wondering what I'd need to build the standard gcc collection on
win9x/ME? More specifically, what other programs does it require. I've
looked at the build directions and it says that the collection builds on
cygwin without any changes, but when I'v tried to build it with the mingw
gcc setup then it doesn't work (I've got a recent version of make, but I
dunno what other utilities it needs to be able to run the 'make bootstrap').
I'm mostly interested in the java compiler from the collection, but I'd like
to see the whole thing build.

I'm also going to be working on building a mingw version of gcj,
although probably not until next week some time. We should share
notes. When I tried it last week, I too encountered some build
problems. I was trying for a linux->mingw cross-compiler, though.
I know there are cygwin patches for gcj which have not made it into
the tree yet, which would probably be helpful. (Check the archives
of the gcc-patches mailling list at gcc.gnu.org if you desire these
patches.) Anyhow, we should share notes.
