I have just updated my mingw installation with the release candidates
of binutils and gcc 3.2.1. I also updated my win32api and msys. After
compilling a few programs i noticed that the exe's generated have
substatially reduced. a typical example is the MdiApp in the example
directory of Dev-cpp. Before the update the exe size was 109 kb whilst
its now just 33kb. Another small program of my has reduced from 87kb to
So those whose main concern with the gcc 3.* ver was the size of the
exe's can give it a try.
I'll like to thank all the guys at mingw who are working for free in
developing this greate compiler. You are all superstars.

It seems that gcc does not implement a type_info object for unsigned. The
following lines of code will not compile.
std::cout << typeid(unsigned).name() < std::endl;
std::cout << typeid(unsigned int).name() < std::endl;
