The first few lines of the script im trying to run are as follows:
# This build script compiles a GCC based cross compiler using the
# newlib C library.
# Known to work under GNU/Linux and Cygwin targeting m68k-elf
# Prints the usage for this script.
echo "$0 installdir [srcdir]"
echo "srcdir contains the gzipped, tarred packages and patches. By
echo "is taken to be the path with which this script was run."
Im still getting the following reply even though the script is UNIX
$ ./build-gcc.sh gnu_source
sh: ./build-gcc.sh: No such file or directory
Ive run the script in both Cygwin and uwin but would really like to be
able to use mingw (msys)
since i dont want my final executable to depend on cywin1.dll .

This could be your problem. msys distributes bash as /bin/sh .
