Hmm...  I tested ``echo -ne '\015' | od -t x1'' and that returned 0d so 
I assumed the double vs single quote the problem.  I not sure why 
echoing a the 0d is causing a problem.  I found
   echo -ne '\015'" ">out.txt
a viable workaround.

I'll flag this a bug.
