Please describe the exact steps you used to install MinGW and/or MSYS and how you are running it (rxvt or command prompt, etc.). Which directories did you install each package in?

I was unable to copy/paste the error messages, but the code is copy/pasted. I am quite confident that the problem is with my installation. I have reinstalled MinGW various times and have not found a solution to this problem. I believe there is a problem with my system somewhere.

I am running MinGW-2.0.0-3 on WinXP pro.

I compiled this program:

  #include <iostream>

  int main()

  {             std::cout << "Hello, World.";

and I get this error:

  hello.cpp: In function 'int main()'

  hello.cpp: `cout ' undeclared in namespace `std'

Seems you have an invisible character there. Please re-type the source
code and compile again.

Have you used cut&paste for showing that lines on this message? The
absence of the line number on the error message indicates you didn't.

What is the problem? In various attempts I've made to compile programs
that have worked in the past, I have found a whole host of errors
involving deeply inbedded header files.

That simple program should compile ok on a correct MinGW installation.
