I am using Clamwin antivirus which seems to use a "cygwin1.dll" file. But If I exit from Clamwin the problem is the same.
Searching for "cygwin*.*" I also found some files in OpenOffice, Scribus and Photran :

I also have some softwares using MinGW : g95, gfortran, Photran (Eclipse+g95).

My PC has 1 Gbytes of RAM and 1.5 Gbytes of swap, the processor is ATHLON XP 3000+, Windows is XP SP2. The version of MSYS is MSYS-1.0.11-2004.04.30-1.exe

Quoting Vincent MAGNIN <vincent.magnin@iemn.univ-lille1.fr>:

No, I am using a 32-bit Windows.
I also saw a message in archives about a problem between MSYS and the
iSafer firewall I use, but the problem is the same if I exit from
this firewall.

Is there a solution to obtain a more explicit message using for
example a debugging tool ?

Well, I was looking for a utility I used to use. I thought it was from
sysinternals.com but I can't find it.

I've seen others report bad memory and lack of virtual memory space.
You are the first in a long time (I can't remember when) with this
issue. Do you have some process open that uses Cygwin? I'm grasping
for a needle in a haystack here. How much physical memory do you have?
How much virtual memory (swap space) do you have? Which version of
MSYS are you using 1.0.10 or 1.0.11?
