Hi,

I just recently discovered mingw-get / the Automated MinGW Installer. Great work! (I have used MSYS 1.0.11 for years and never touched it. Today I needed MSYS one a new computer.)

I noticed that when running the installer I couldn't deselect the C-compiler. That made me wonder if it shouldn't be possible to only install MSYS? That would be very useful for people that don't need any compilers. The reason I ask about this is that it would be nice to make the download as small as possible.

If you're talking about mingw-get-inst then well, it's a wrapper for those who must have a GUI and will eventually go away when mingw-get provides its own GUI. You can download the mingw-get.zip file and mingw-get update && mingw-get install msys on the command line if that is all you want to install.

I'll let Charles Wilson decide the fate of this request. Retitled for a better fit.

Since SF has this as our file to download this request makes sense after private make from the OP. The point the OP is trying to make is that he only wanted MSYS and not MinGW gcc.

The most recent mingw-get-inst release (20111118) relaxes this requirement. The C Compiler is still selected by default, but you can de-select it and install only MSYS if you like.
