Hello, About the encoding, I would suggest that you use utf-8 for all your message files, msgcat 1.2.2 automatically loads the messagefiles in utf-8 encoding. This version is not yet included in a release, but I would suggest that anyway. If you don't want to upgrade to this version then you can use a couple of lines instead of mcload, something like this: set fd [open [cconcat [file join msgs $Lang] ".msg"] r] fconfigure $fd -encoding utf-8 set utfscript [read $fd] close $fd eval $utfscript As far as standard msgcat files, I don't know where one might find them. Personally I don't really like the idea of "automatic translation" of software or anything else either without it being supervised by a translator, it's better to try to get someone to translate it for you, with the use of msgcat you have separated the translatable strings from the source files in order to enable easier translation.
