MikTeX 2.8 installed on my Windows XP machine works fine except that
it cannot locate cls files I have installed in the LaTeX folder.
If I rename an installed file, using the name of a file that came with
MiKTeX, then MKTeX finds the installed file under the assumed name.
For example I have a cls file named asl (Association for Symbolic
Logic). If take out the real amsart and rename this installed file
"amsart," and tex a document using amsart; then MiKTex finds the
falsely named cls file and complains that it is not really amsart but
is asl. But afterwards if I restore the correct names and tex a
document using asl, then MiKTeX simply says
! LaTeX error file `asl' not found
So far as i can see the properties of the installed files are
identical to the others. All have type of file CLS. All open with
I have installed innumerable versions of MiKTeX on many machines so I
am sure there is some trivial fix. But "Refresh FNDB" doesn't do it,
nor does "Update Formats," or restarting the machine. I tried copying
the installed cls files from my MiKTeX 2.7 and also downloading them
Any ideas? Thanks.
