I recently installed a fresh copy of Windows XP with Service Pack 3 on my
computer. All latest Windows updates (important and optional) have been
applied before trying to install MiKTeX 2.8.
I got the error message "...Permission Denied..." when running the setup
wizard. The problem happened when the setup program was trying to copy a
file to the destination directory. I tried to run setup several times, each
time the same error message poped-up but with a different file being copied.
I also tried to use "C:\MiKTeX 2.8" instead of "C:\Program Files\MiKTeX 2.8"
as the destination directory, but got the same problem. Any helps? Thanks!

If the destination dir is on NTFS check that Simple File Sharing is
disabled, that the user you are using to run the setup wizard actually
_owns_ all files in destination dir and that it has full control

This looks like a different problem. I guess msvcp90.dll is used
(locked) by another application. Try to find which one, e.g. with
and stop it.
If your destination directory (C:\Program Files\MiKTeX 2.8) was not
empty before installation empty it before you try again.
If you have some weird Anti Virus/Security/whatever programs running
make sure they do not interfer.
