Hi I got what I was doing wrong and I dont know why I never got this problem before. The label should be within caption! Thanks ALL! Just to put the dots on the i's, the label doesn't have to be _inside_ the caption, but it won't work if it comes before. The reason is simple: the table (or whatever) environment itself does not trigger the table (or whatever) counter - the \caption command does that. So, inside the caption or after is fine.
