Hello, I have been trying to install additional templates to the TexWorks environment without success. I must first admit that TexWorks, TexLive, TexShop, and LaTex are all confusing. I have read a good bit online but still am lost. I see that TexWorks(LaTex) in general is a powerful tool that I want to use for writing as a PhD EE student. Now, I have downloaded the proper version form MikTex and used Macports to install tettex. I am trying to use an IEEEtrans.cls template and I have put it everywhere I can imagine in the OS x file system, but can't seem to use the template when I open TexWork. I am not sure if it is my setup or what is the problem. What I would like to be able to do create IEEETrans papers using TexWorks. I see some refer to it as Latex and Lyx. Where do I start? Wes |

Hi Wesley, I guess you wrote to the wrong list and I guess you're mixing things up a little. You are using Mac OS X so I recommend you to install MacTeX, part of the 2011 TeXlive. It brings TeXworks so there is no need to install something else. (TeXworks btw is just an editor, providing an easy way to use LaTeX. Lyx is kind of a WYSIWYG application producing LaTeX code as well) Using teTeX via Macports is IMHO the least optimal way since teTeX is AFAIK not supported anymore. Therefore my hint: Try to get rid of everything you have installed and install TeXlive 2011. Try to find someone in your department who can give you a brief overview how it works.
