Dear List Members,
I have installed MiKTeX 2.6 on May 1.
I made a full installation in the following way:
(a) First I downloaded MiKTeX net installer,
i.e. the file setup-2.6.2675.exe into the root
directory of the drive c:
(b) Then making use of setup-2.6.2675.exe I downloaded the
full MiKTeX 2.6 into the directory D:\Archive\MiKTeX260
(c) Finally I made a full installation into the directory
D:\MiKTeX2.6 by restarting setup-2.6.2675.exe.
I have had no problem with the installation since then.
However it turned out yesterday that some of the packages
had been refreshed on net.
I have downloaded the new (or updated) packages into my
local repository D:\Archive\MiKTeX260 today by starting
setup-2.6.2675.exe. Then I started the new MiKTeX 2.6 update
wizard -- I selected my local package repository
D:\Archive\MiKTeX260 for source directory. This is the directory
where I downloaded the new (or updated packages).
After some time I got the list of the packages to be updated.
Then I accepted all the packages offered for updating and I let
the new MiKTeX 2.6 update wizard to proceed its work. However
I got an error message:
The operation failed for some reason
Here it follows the MiKTeX Update Wizard Report

What have i done wrong? Please help.
By the way the operation system is Windows XP Professional

A remark: this procedure worked perfectly under MiKTeX 2.5

I had the same problem last week (see the "update woes" thread). The
suggestion I got, which worked fine, was to open a command window in
your miktex\bin directory (in your case, probably
D:\MiKTeX2.6\miktex\bin) and running the commands
Then try the update again; it should work again.
