My solution (also with MiKTeX 2.7) was to use the package manager to
install all packages with the keyword "fonts"
Assuming that you used a program such as maple etc..to create the .eps
graphics, MiKTeX ghostscript needs to find the fonts helvetic, etc.
There is a file C:\Program Files\MiKTeX 2.7\ghostscript\base\Fontmap.MiKTeX
which assumes that there are files type1/urw/helvetic/uhvb8a.pfb etc.
At the time of my installation, the "urw fonts" were NOT installed by default.
The error messages are more terse with dvipdfm - the clue is that the error
message contains the word "/findfont"
