I run Windows XP sp3
I am having trouble with Metapost. I have been running MiKTeX 2.6 until
yesterday, and I use Metapost heavily for my work at Princeton University
Press, in particular, lately the m3d and mp-solid packages for 3d drawing in
I have never had any problems before, and I am a programmer and know the
Metapost code well. But once I installed version 2.9 and tried to compile
the files I got an error message saying that the capacity of metapost was
exceeded. At that point, and since I really have to finish a book I am
working on I decided to uninstall version 2.9 and install 2.8, since the
version of Metapost was a bit older, and that made me think that perhaps
that would solve the problem. It did, however, it caused others.
In version 2.8 when I compiled I got problems related to TeX labels e.g.
"btex $X$ etex" that I never had before. Perhaps the makempx program does
not like spacing, I thought, and so I put the file in the appropriate
directory (no spacing in the path), but then it told me that class .cls
files could not be found, which was strange since they where right there in
the same directory. So I moved the style files to the appropriate place
within MiKTeX (i.e. where other common style files are) and that solved the
problem and finally compiled the file as it should.
However, once I tried to compile other files, such as the ones requiring the
mp-solid package, Metapost run but no files were produced and no errors were
given. I tried placing the mp-solid package within MiKTeX in the appropriate
places, but even after updating and refreshing, I got nothing.
I have checked online and other people seem to be having these kinds of
problems. All my code is fine and never had these kinds of problems with
MiKTeX 2.6. Please, help me out, as my work depends greatly on this tool.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I suppose someone will ask you: can you please post a minimal example
that generates the problem.
