This is the wrong list for such question. Use a latex group (comp.text.tex, texhax, tex.stackexchange) http://www.tex.ac.uk/cgi-bin/texfaq2html?label=gethelp 2. Without a small, complete example that demonstrates your problem I doubt that someone will be able and willing to help you. http://www.tex.ac.uk/cgi-bin/texfaq2html?label=askquestion -- Ulrike Fischer |

I've been using the cancel package for a while, and I like it very much. This weekend I found the steinmetz packege that interests me as much as the former, but when I use then at the same time, the lines and the arrows of the \cancel and \cancelto macros became misplaced. The steinmetz package needs the pict2e package, and it's seems to me that this package when loaded redefines the references of the picture environment. Does anyone came across this problem, and does it have any solution? Jether Fernandes Reis |

Just noticed that calling makeindex.exe with a fully qualified path to myfile.idx fails. I haven't used indexes for quite a while, so I'm not sure when this changed. Can it be overridden? Also, how can I request version info from makeindex.exe? Thanks, Alan Isaac PS Since this involves a Windows binary, I'm supposing this is a MiKTeX question. |

Install (like I do) miktex only in your user account in single user mode (If the user account has no writing rights for "C:\program files" use another folder for the main root). If you do a multi user installation it is imho difficult and cumbersome to avoid every interference from the user - you would have to disable on-the-fly and do every administration as admin. In this case it is in my opinion best to run the update tool and FNDB-renew always in both modes and updmap as user. -- Ulrike Fischer |

All of this must be true. My guess is that `geometry' was installed on the fly, while I only updated the administrator variant (recently). On my next computer I'll try to be careful not to have both administrator and local variants (once I figure out how to do it..). Thanks! Yet another update. Googling the error I found an old post (involving OpenSuse, but perhaps that's irrelevant), which also suggested a workaround, namely using the following code very early on: \makeatletter \let\ifGm@...\relax \makeatother It appears to do the trick for me, although I hope it won't screw something up on another computer, etc. Anyway, if it is, indeed, a problem with a package, perhaps someone who understands better what is going on can help bring about a proper fix. Sorry for the many messages, and thanks again. The bare commands work fine on my windows 7 machines in briefcase directories. But if I use an include file with --include-directory="l:\texinclude\tex" it works with my 32 bit 2.8 but not with my 64 bit 2.9. Has anyone else seen this problem? |

Good morning, I experience the same problem since updating my miktex installation this morning. Until then it had worked just fine. Neither my name nor any path in the directories uses accents or non-ASCII-codes anything like that., as far as I can judge Deinstallation of Miktex failed due to the API 113 error. "Manual" deinstallation and reinstallation of a version 2.9.4321 does not improve my situation at all. I use babel [ngerman], miktex version as stated above, on a WinXP machine. I appreciate any help. And it's urgend, my diploma thesis can't wait. Good morning. I just downloaded the new release of MiKTeX 2.9 Version 4236 2011-08-07. I still have the problem whenI run LaTeX to produce a dvi file : Windows API error 1113: No mapping for the Unicode character exists in the target multi-byte code page. I am using Babel, French. Any idea how to fix it ? Best regards. Jerome Huck |

For a long time I have been having trouble with spurious errors when using pstricks with XeLaTeX in Miktex. > On Fri, Aug 5, 2011 at 3:11 PM, Ulrike Fischer <list@...> wrote: > Why don't you try TeXLive first? After this suggestion by Ulrich, I did try TeXLive 2011 for Windows and the problem has so far disappeared with TexLive. In addition, the pdf file size is about 33% smaller when using TeXLive. I am not overjoyed with the result however --- I would still like to know why Miktex does not work (while TexLive does). I have used Miktex for several years and have only reluctantly left it behind. But in the hopefully near future I will put sample files here: http://banyan.cm.nctu.edu.tw/~dgreenhoe/groups/test_miktex1.pdf http://banyan.cm.nctu.edu.tw/~dgreenhoe/groups/test_miktex2.pdf http://banyan.cm.nctu.edu.tw/~dgreenhoe/groups/test_texlive1.pdf http://banyan.cm.nctu.edu.tw/~dgreenhoe/groups/test_texlive2.pdf And here is the test code (minus some comments): \documentclass{book} \usepackage{pstricks} \usepackage{pstricks-add} \begin{document} first page \psset{unit=1mm} \newpage \begin{pspicture}(0,0)(150,150) \multirput(0,0)(0,15){10}{% \multirput(0,0)(5,0){30}{\psline(0,0)(0,10)}% }% \end{pspicture} \newpage \begin{pspicture}(0,0)(150,150) \multirput(0,0)(0,15){10}{% \multirput(0,0)(5,0){30}{\psline(0,0)(0,10)}% }% \end{pspicture} \newpage \begin{pspicture}(0,0)(150,150) \multirput(0,0)(0,15){10}{% \multirput(0,0)(5,0){30}{\psline(0,0)(0,10)}% }% \end{pspicture} \newpage \begin{pspicture}(0,0)(150,150) \multirput(0,0)(0,15){10}{% \multirput(0,0)(5,0){30}{\psline(0,0)(0,10)}% }% \end{pspicture} \newpage \begin{pspicture}(0,0)(150,150) \multirput(0,0)(0,15){10}{% \multirput(0,0)(5,0){30}{\psline(0,0)(0,10)}% }% \end{pspicture} \newpage \begin{pspicture}(0,0)(150,150) \multirput(0,0)(0,15){10}{% \multirput(0,0)(5,0){30}{\psline(0,0)(0,10)}% }% \end{pspicture} \newpage \begin{pspicture}(0,0)(150,150) \multirput(0,0)(0,15){10}{% \multirput(0,0)(5,0){30}{\psline(0,0)(0,10)}% }% \end{pspicture} \end{document} If anyone has any theories as to why Miktex failed on my system while TexLive does not fail, I would be interested to hear it.
