If those programs are open source then they could probably be compiled under Cygwin to run under Windows. > Depending on how much structure was in your original, you may just try to do this by hand. Maybe you can post more details on your project. Basically, you would open the word file and copy and paste the text to a normal text editor. hmmm...what was it called? Wintex? (I used to run MikTeX on Windows, maybe someone can check me) > Then you would just add sections, etc. I dont know how complicated your document was...any pictures, diagrams. Just post back with more details. It would probably be easier to output the document as plain text from Word. But what I would suggest is to output it as HTML (with the XML Word-specific markup stripped out). That should preserve the formatting and any diagrams. Then, edit the HTML markup into LaTeX markup. You could probably do a lot of it with a few carefully chosen global search-replace operations (provided you use a suitable editor, such as Emacs). Francis |

Hi. I am trying to put a footnote as a pattern on the whole document. As one = can do with the LNCS book style for the information on the top of the = pages. Does anyone know how can I do this? Thanks for the help. I found out that the 'safer' option in GSView was the reason. When this is turned on gsview simple reports errors about everything. Without it everything works. So it wasn't gs but gsview, that stopped me. I don't know why this safer option, that should only prevent it from writing to files and open other files, can results in this behaviour - but it does. If you chose not to use a converter, but to learn TeX, then I suggest you get a shell program (editor) to use with MiKTeX. You can find a list of those at http://home.arcor.de/itsfd/texwin.htm I've used WinEdt and WinTexShell, they're both good, I prefer WinEdt but WinTexShell is freeware. I good beginners tutorial is "The (Not So) Short Introduction To LaTeX" which you can find at http://ctan.tug.org/tex-archive/info/lshort/english/lshort.pdf / erik ----- Original Message ----- From: "ge qingwen" <qingwenge@...> To: <miktex-users@...> Sent: Sunday, January 12, 2003 6:56 PM Subject: [MiKTeX] Help!
