TeX was designed to be archival. Out of curiosity, what gave you this idea? TeX may be feature-frozen, but the brittle font subsystem makes it a generally inappropriate choice for archiving - it's quite difficult to archive the environment in which a TeX file is run. > LaTeX has decided not to support this. > > At the command line you can circumvent this with a command line option > that sets the date and time. As is stated by the error message, you don't have to trick the computer in order to compile the file (it would be easier to pass this on the command line to initex anyway - you just have to assign to \year and then \input the format) - it's a warning which can be skipped simply pressing enter. The sources simply assume that LaTeX (an active project) will have produced an upgrade which you'll likely want (as they at least aim to be backwards compatible). David |
