[MiKTeX] Re^2: epstopdf error: /undefined in .notdef From: Peter Grabs - 2010-12-22 13:26:24 thanks for your reply. i will attach two files that didnt work (one from maple, one from inkscape), but as i said it doesnt look like a file specific problem. another person was able to do the epstopdf with them on his linux system. also i tried several files. also i read to try eps2eps on broken eps files, this again gives me the same error message. what does the error message itself mean? maple does not offer to export an image as .pdf, at least not in any way obvious to me. regards, peter > Message: 5 > Date: Tue, 21 Dec 2010 04:52:29 -0800 (PST) > From: Peter Grabs > Subject: [MiKTeX] epstopdf error: /undefined in .notdef > To: miktex-users@... > Message-ID: <608470.44090.qm@...> > Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii > > hi. > my name is peter and this is i think the first time i write > to such a list. i hope i am doing it correctly, i am > normally used to forums. > > my problem: > i use miktex 2.7 (it's always worked nicely for me and i > havent had a reason to update) on win xp pro sp2. > i always compile my latex sources with pdflatex.exe. now i > wanted to include some .eps images (exported from maple). i > read that this can only be done if i create .ps files which > i dont like. otherwise the .eps files have to be converted > first. > miktex includes an epstopdf.exe (and also a ps2pdf.exe, > both have the same effect). i also tried the epstopdf > package, it creates a box in the pdf file containing the > correct name of the converted file, but the file doesnt > exist (so not a write18 issue), i get the same error > messages during the creation process. > now for the error itself (normally i am quite computer > savvy, but this just doesnt give me a clue, except i > installed ghostscript, but to no avail): > (i tried and it gives the same error message on any input > file, so i assume it doesnt even start reading the eps (it > does check if the file exists though)) > (this is copied from a cmd window, so it has a few > linebreak too many, it does not look better without them > ;-) > > > > D:\maths>epstopdf test_eps.eps > While reading gs_fntem.ps: > Error: /undefined in .notdef > Operand stack: >    (gs_fntem.ps)   1   FontEmulationProcs   encodingnames   --nostringval--   -- > nostringval--   StandardEncoding   --nostringval--   ISOLatin1Encoding   --nostr > ingval--   SymbolEncoding   --nostringval--   DingbatsEncoding   --nostringval-- >    SymbolEncoding   --nostringval--   DingbatsEncoding   --nostringval--   ISOLa > tin1Encoding   --nostringval--   StandardEncoding   WINANSI.COD   WINANSI.COD > Encoding   0 > Execution stack: >    %interp_exit   --nostringval--   --nostringval--   --nostringval--   %array_c > ontinue   --nostringval--   --nostringval--   --nostringval--   false   1   %sto > pped_push   --nostringval--   1842   17   5   %oparray_pop   --nostringval--   - > -nostringval--   --dict:17/21(ro)(G)--   --dict:73/73(G)--   --nostringval--   1 > 28   %dict_continue   --nostringval--   --nostringval--   1840   24   5   %oparr > ay_pop   findresource   %errorexec_pop   --nostringval--   --nostringval--   --n > ostringval--   --nostringval--   930757   WINANSI.COD   25   --nostringval--   - > -nostringval--   false   1   %stopped_push   1755   25   6   %oparray_pop   --no > stringval--   %errorexec_pop   .runexec2   --nostringval--   --nostringval--   - > -nostringval--   2   %stopped_push   --nostringval-- > Dictionary stack: >    --dict:944/1123(G)--   --dict:0/20(G)--   --dict:64/200(L)--   --dict:944/112 > 3(G)--   --dict:10/10(G)--   --dict:17/21(ro)(G)-- > Current allocation mode is global > Current file position is 12 > Unrecoverable error: undefined in .uninstallpagedevice > Operand stack: >     gs_fntem.ps  1  > FontEmulationProcs  encodingnames  > --nostringval--  --nostri > ngval--  StandardEncoding  --nostringval--  > ISOLatin1Encoding  --nostringval-- > SymbolEncoding  --nostringval--  > DingbatsEncoding  --nostringval--  SymbolEncodi > ng  --nostringval--  DingbatsEncoding > > > > > > > > > > >       > > > > ------------------------------ > > Message: 6 > Date: Tue, 21 Dec 2010 14:10:51 +0100 > From: Ulrike Fischer > Subject: Re: [MiKTeX] epstopdf error: /undefined in > .notdef > To: miktex-users@... > Message-ID: <1sqhz5gki7hzr.dlg@...> > Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" > > Am Tue, 21 Dec 2010 04:52:29 -0800 (PST) schrieb Peter > Grabs: > > > > i always compile my latex sources with pdflatex.exe. > now i wanted > > to include some .eps images (exported from maple). > > > > miktex includes an epstopdf.exe (and also a > ps2pdf.exe, both have > > the same effect). i also tried the epstopdf package, > it creates a > > box in the pdf file containing the correct name of the > converted > > file, but the file doesnt exist (so not a write18 > issue), i get > > the same error messages during the creation process. > now for the > > error itself (normally i am quite computer savvy, but > this just > > doesnt give me a clue, except i installed ghostscript, > but to no > > avail): > > > D:\maths>epstopdf test_eps.eps While reading > gs_fntem.ps: Error: > > /undefined in .notdef > > > Without one of the eps-file nobody can tell you if the eps > are buggy > or your ghostscript/miktex. > > > Btw: Can't maple export to pdf directly? [MiKTeX] how to crop each pages differently From: Enrico Toniolo - 2010-12-23 08:27:11 Hello to all, Is possible, and how, to use the 'crop' package in order to choose the dimension of each page differently? Is it also possible to have the crop-width and height dimensions automatically set to the minimum+margin for each page? Should I use another package? Which one? Attached it is an example file where I wish to apply this. Further, this file contains some Xmas riddles, and I hope someone enjoy with them... thank you in advance best regards ENRICO TONIOLO %%% X3masPresent.tex \documentclass{article} \usepackage{amssymb} \usepackage[cam,width=12.6truecm,height=12.6truecm]{crop} \hoffset=-4.55cm \voffset=-4cm \begin{document} \thispagestyle{empty} \centerline{\large\bfseries\boldmath$2+0+1+0=3$\quad Xmas presents for you!\unboldmath} \section*{Riddle-1}\label{riddle:trivial} If $a\in\mathbb{R}$ and $n\in\mathbb{N}$, then, $$\label{eq:trivial} \lim_{n\rightarrow+\infty}\left(1+\frac{a}{n}\right)^n=e^a$$ \section*{Riddle-2}\label{riddle:difficult} If $a,a_n\in\mathbb{R}$, $n\in\mathbb{N}$ and $\displaystyle\lim_{n\rightarrow+\infty}a_n=a$, then, $$\label{eq:difficult} \lim_{n\rightarrow+\infty}\left(1+\frac{a_n}{n}\right)^n=e^a$$ \section*{Riddle-3}\label{riddle:difficultandstrange} If $a,a_n\in\mathbb{R}$, $n\in\mathbb{N}$ and $\displaystyle\lim_{n\rightarrow+\infty}a_n=a$, then, $$\label{eq:difficultandstrange} \lim_{n\rightarrow+\infty}\prod_{k=1}^{n}\left(1+\frac{a_k}{n}\right)^n= \lim_{n\rightarrow+\infty}\left\{\left(1+\frac{a_1}{n}\right)\cdot \left(1+\frac{a_2}{n}\right)\cdots\left(1+\frac{a_n}{n}\right)\right\}= e^a$$ \clearpage \section*{Solutions} I want this page, and only this, to be A4\dots \end{document} _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ATTENTION: This e-mail message contains confidential and/or legally privileged information intended solely for the person to whom it is addressed. Unless you want pages of different size with the content taking up exactly the same amount of space on each page, you don't want to use "crop" for sizing pages. For that, you want to use the "geometry" package, which lets you set up the precise real-page dimensions. - Mike "Pomax" Kamermans nihongoresources.com
