I don't know whether this is a Miktex or WinEdt question. How do I change the appearance of text in WinEdt when I define a new command? I defined a new \myfootnote command, and I need the text to be highlighted in the normal (i.. \footnote) manner.

This is a WinEdt question. By default for a La(TeX) file, WinEdt highlights every word that starts with a backslash as a command, irrespective of whether the command is actually properly defined or not. Do you want a different, customized highlighting? Then I suggest you look at the WinEdt Help and search for "Syntax Highlighting". WinEdt allows you to prepare a list of words, commands etc., that you want highlighted in a customized manner.

The WinEdt package `dynamicLaTeX' does what you want.

      See: http://www.winedt.org/Config/modes/dynamicLaTeX.php

It sort of works. Not quite but close enough.
