After updating to the latest versionof MiKTeX on August 3, I have been experiencing problems when running the MiKTeX Upgrade (Admin) program. It always ends in an error message. The error message and log files are attached.
I am running a Windows 10 PRO 64bit machine. I can supply more information is required.
This is the C:\ProgramData\MiKTeX\2.9\miktex\log\initexmf_admin.log file. I cannot seem to add more then one attachment per post.
And this is the error mesage PNG
"Something" is in the way when MiKTeX operates. Try to disable "Something".
(Often, not always, "Something" is a virus scanner.)
Try running this as an administrator:

Okay, I ran that command at the command prompt (administrator). Nothing happened for a few seconds and then the command prompt reappeared. Is that normal? What, if anything, should I have seen?
By the way, this behavior did not happen before the latest update of MiKTeX.
It is normal, that
initexmfdoes not produce console output. Since we can run the command at the command-prompt, evidence is growing that this issue falls into the "something is watching MiKTeX and prevents it from doing its job" category. I am afraid I can't help you.Last edit: Christian Schenk 2017-08-07
