Using full-miktex-2.9.4389.exe to install the product after having used the same exe to download a full build, I specified my target directory as C:\MikTeX 2.9 (note the space between the X and the 2). After installing all of the files in that directory over a 10-15 minute period, I get the following error in the log and the install fails.

"C:\MiKTeX 2.9\miktex/bin\initexmf.exe" --modify-path --admin --log-file="C:\MiKTeX 2.9\miktex\config\uninst.log" --verbose:
initexmf.exe: Windows API error 161: The specified path is invalid.

initexmf.exe: Data: "C:\Program Files\PKWARE\pkzipc"\pdftex.exe

An error occurred:
source file: Libraries\MiKTeX\Core\Process.cpp
source line: 305
message: The operation failed for some reason.
info: C:\MiKTeX 2.9\miktex/bin\initexmf.exe

After some head scratching and seeing a collegue had successfully installed the product in C:\Program Files\MikTeX-2.9 (note a hyphen between the X and 2), I deleted all of the installed files and tried again with a hypen in my name, ie C:\MikTeX-2.9. The result was a successful install. I can only assume that the install process handles a space in "Program Files" but not a space in the target directory. My overall log with the failure is attached.
