System: Windows 7 - 64bit
MikTeX 2.9.4250 basic (dowloaded on 18 Nov 2011)

This is a BibTeX bug which is similar to #2992192 and #935967 reported previously.

  1. Issued command \"latex testbib\", which produces \"testbib.log\" (no problems)
    Issued command \"bibtex testbib\" which produces \"testbib.blg\"

  2. I expected some errors in the .blg file

  3. What happened which is particularly strange is that I receive the messages

Warning--I\'m ignoring 57Bro218\'s extra \"title\" field
Warning--I\'m ignoring 84VDD436\'s extra \"title\" field
Warning--I\'m ignoring 65ChG872\'s extra \"journal\" field
Warning--I\'m ignoring 92LCB1744\'s extra \"title\" field
Warning--I\'m ignoring 69Lun3488\'s extra \"title\" field

Additional warnings about these entries are contained in the full .blg file.
The .bib file contains 5000 entries (too large to upload), and BibTeX is complaining about numbers 218, 438 (=2218), 872 (=4218), 1744 (=8218) and 3488 (=16218)

This has been reported earlier but the pattern of failure was less obvious.

I cannot reproduce the bug because the bib file (bib1) is missing.
