Christoffer Dall finished a project about external storage and databases in
MiG.

We need to obtain the code and get it in shape for publishing (including
license headers, etc.)

Jonas will contact Christoffer in order to get the ball rolling.

Responsibility for the actual integration of the results into the MiG
personal pages will be delegated when the project is published.

Christoffer's project provides a solution that transparently caches files from a web
server on the storage resource to the MiG server. These cached files are then mapped
to user home dirs to work as any other file there.
We could actually allow for the storage resources to just provide a path that should
be sshfs mounted on the server instead of requiring a web server and server caching.
The actual access to the mounted storage could still be handled as proposed with
links from user homes or vgrid folders.
It would make sense to add this feature through a new resource storage unit, like the
existing exe units. Such units would then specify e.g. paths to mount, shared file
system, vgrids allowed to access mounts and disk size/quota.
