We've released a small sample of the new EJB3 plugin, based on the EJB3 Preview of JBoss4. Download and try from this page: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=36044&package_id=136741&release_id=285881 It contains a small hsqldb (the standard Middelgen sample - "airline"), but should teoretically work with all databases supported by other Middlegen plugins. To run the sample: 1) Set JAVA_HOME to a JDK 1.5 release. 2) Set JBOSS_HOME to point to the JBoss4 release with the EJB 3.0 preview. 3) Run 'ant' to generate Entity beans and deploy with sample code. 4) Run 'ant run' to run the client sample. Let us know if there are any problems. .eivind |

Middlegen 2.1 was just released on sourceforge. This is really a minor release, main objective is to get latest CVS changes out and to prepare for a bigger release (planned late 2004/beginning 2005). Summary of changes: * Hibernate plugin - various fixes and patches. * Torque plugin (new) - generate Torque config files. * XMI plugin (new) - generate some XMI diagrams from the generated code. * Adapter plugin (new) - making it easier to switch persistence layer for generated Struts/JSP code. * Many core/plugin bugs fixed. Hope everything works. Let us know if there are any issues :-) - Middlegen developer team |

Hi folks, After a long hibernation period, Middlegen is now awake. For a few months I have been working silently and randomly on a complete refactoring of the Middlegen core, which now lives at Codehaus: CVS: CVSROOT=:pserver:ano...@cv...:/cvsroot/middlegen module=middlegen ViewCVS: http://middlegen.cvs.codehaus.org/middlegen/ IMPORTANT: I'm not announcing this because there are any new releases or even anything that's even stable yet. But many people have asked to see the latest sources, so here you go. In the next weeks, the Middlegen project will gradually move from BEKK/SourceForge to Codehaus. Here is what's going to happen: o The old SF CVS will move to the new CVS, in a module called middlegen_old or something. o We'll stop maintaining the old version and focus on the new refactored version o We'll move all the SF bug reports and RFEs to Middlegen's JIRA at codehaus o The mailing lists will be moved to codehaus. o We'll personally move all mailing list subscriptions to the new lists. Please don't do it yourself. o We'll close down everything at SF o The foilware will move from its current location to http://middlegen.codehaus.org/ o There will be CVSSpam commit messages (for those subscribed to the dev list) o The build system will be entirely Mavenised Cheers, Aslak -- http://blogs.codehaus.org/people/rinkrank/ |

Hi all Middlegen friends! (if you reply, please exclude the middlegen-devel and middlegen-announce lists). Middlegen is being heavily refactored (into an upcoming 3.0 release), and will soon get a new home at codehaus.org... ++++++++++++ Some words about the refactorings and the roadmap ++++++++++++ o Middlegen will get a much cleaner internal datamodel (Table,Column,ForeignKey,PrimaryKey,Reference,Relation). o Perhaps a merge of the datamodel/database scanner with Jakarta Commons SQL. (Will get back to you James ;-)) o Use of AOP/Dynamic Proxies for simpler plugin development. o Use the generic code plugin/generation framework provided by XDoclet2. o C# plugin for the NEO framework (http://neo.sourceforge.net/plan.html). o IDE integration (IntelliJ IDEA will be prioritised). Maybe Eclipse and others later. ++++++++++++ And the moving process (codehaus.org) ++++++++++++ Website : http://middlegen.codehaus.org/ CVS : :pserver:ano...@cv...:/cvsroot/middlegen (or :ext:you: for developers) Bug tracker : http://jira.codehaus.org/secure/BrowseProject.jspa?id=10110 Mailing lists : middlegen-devel|us...@li... So how will things be migrated? Here is my suggestion: o Website o The old website at http://boss.bekk.no/boss/middlegen/ will be removed and just forward to http://middlegen.codehaus.org/archive/middlegen-2.0-b2-HEAD/ o The nightly build process for Middlegen 2.0-b2-HEAD will be moved to codehaus. o CVS o Eivind will continue to improve the CVS branch on SF adding value object support for cmp2. o Aslak will finish the refactorings in the new CVS repository. o All developers (Eivind, Aslak, Ludovic(?), Newcomers(!!??) will migrate plugins by hand to the new CVS. o All developers should familiraise themselves with our new portal http://codehaus.org/ and create a linux/cvs account here. o Bug tracker o All open issues at SF will get a corresponding JIRA issue linking to the old one. o All current issues at SF will be closed with a comment and link to the "new" JIRA issue. o The SF bug tracker will have a big red banner saying "THIS TRACKER IS CLOSED" and a link to our new JIRA. o Mailing lists o The mailing lists at SF will be closed for submission (but still archived) o All subscribers will be moved from the old to the new lists by the Middlegen team when the time is right. Thoughts on this? Questions? (I would think so ;-) ) Aslak |

http://boss.bekk.no/boss/middlegen/ http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=36044 There will be more propaganda when 2.0 final is ready, but it would be nice to get some feedback from the faithful users first. Have fun :-) Aslak |

See http://www.theserverside.com/home/thread.jsp?thread_id=14516 "The Middleware Company Announces J2EE Patterns Course" ... "Students will construct a J2EE application with ever-evolving requirements. Ant, Middlegen, and Xdoclet will be used in conjunction with pattern-implementing frameworks to generate the bulk of the code" :-) Aslak. (Thanks to Andrew Stevens from XDoclet for the tip) |

Hi! This is just a note to let you know there are some feature additions to Middlegen in CVS (not yet released). These are: -Possibility to specify type and names for fields. -Preferences support (If you run on JDK 1.4). Middlegen remembers field type and name settings between each invocation. -Fixed some bugs, so all combinations of cardinality and directionality should now work properly. -Middlegen now creates finder methods. -Added some sample SQL scripts for MySQL. You can now generate a sample database by doing build create-database to fill the database with tables/relations. -Enhanced WLS support. You can run build weblogic-ejb-jar to build a precompiled deployable ejb jar file for WLS (weblogic.jar must be on your CLASSPATH). -<table> elements in ant are now accounted for in GUI mode too. Please note that the checkboxes for local/remote selections are currently dumb. Only local stuff will be generated regardless of their selection. |
