Dear MIDAS developers, I wrote some guidelines that should help FOSS projects getting more lively and lowering the barrier for new developers to join. You can find them in form of a small manual here http://projects.mi.fu-berlin.de/w/bin/view/SE/ThesisFOSSIMMediationManual. These ideas are the result of work for my bachelor thesis and have been used successfully at the GNU Classpath project. If the topic is of interest to you, I would be happy to receive criticism and comments concerning the manual or the general idea. For further discussion I have set up a mailing-list (use http://lists.spline.inf.fu-berlin.de/mailman/listinfo/mediation_manual to subscribe or med...@li... to post unsubscribed). Please send your feedback to this list but if you have reasons to contact me directly then just reply to this mail. In case you answer to your project's mailing list please CC me. Best regards Robert Schuster |

Hello, i started recently with midas and like it very much. Therefore i think of developing new checks to meet requirements that have not been covert, yet. actually i would like to create checks that allow: -monitoring processes (in particular on win32 systems, but of cause also for linux) -monitoring registry changes (win32) systems and mabye settings in /etc/ on linux -make use of monitoring file changes, which is a regular part of midas (md5 check), but does not work reliable for now - depending on the volume of files. I am using the latest beta from cvs and looked into the new plugin concept, which i really like. So i am kindly asking wether this mailing list is the right place to share thoughts, ideas and questions, because it seems to me that the forum is not intended to be used for beta stuff and creating new pieces of software. Best regards Wolfgang |

Dear Open Source developer I am doing a research project on "Fun and Software Development" in which I kindly invite you to participate. You will find the online survey under http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/. The questionnaire consists of 53 questions and you will need about 15 minutes to complete it. With the FASD project (Fun and Software Development) we want to define the motivational significance of fun when software developers decide to engage in Open Source projects. What is special about our research project is that a similar survey is planned with software developers in commercial firms. This procedure allows the immediate comparison between the involved individuals and the conditions of production of these two development models. Thus we hope to obtain substantial new insights to the phenomenon of Open Source Development. With many thanks for your participation, Benno Luthiger PS: The results of the survey will be published under http://www.isu.unizh.ch/fuehrung/blprojects/FASD/. We have set up the mailing list fa...@we... for this study. Please see http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/mailinglist_en.html for registration to this mailing list. _______________________________________________________________________ Benno Luthiger Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich 8092 Zurich Mail: benno.luthiger(at)id.ethz.ch _______________________________________________________________________ |

Hi all! I'm doing a research project on the motives of free software / open source software developers. This survey follows a somewhat different approach than some earlier studies and tries to incorporate concepts of social psychology to better understand the internal motivation of developers. The questionnaire consists of 44 questions which should be scored on a scale from 1 to 7. According to test runs, completion of the questionnaire should take about 6 minutes. No registration required. The questionnaire and more information about the survey can be found here: *** http://foss-survey.at.tf *** The survey will be online until the end of January. I hope to have the results online by mid February. If you want to be notified, please enter your email address in the appropriate box. If you have questions or comments about this survey, please CC me or email me directly, because I won't be able to follow all the lists/forums. Thank you. Your help is greatly appreciated. ralph |
