Most new versions of this program are not backwards compatible with older files. In order to upgrade to the newest version, you must open your hidden files using the version originally used, copy all of the files to a temporary location, and then hide them using the new version. Failure to follow these instructions will result in corrupted data. If a new version is backward compatible, this fact will be noted in the changelog.

When setting your password during the initial launch or when using the toolkit, be aware that the characters for new passwords are not masked. If you wish your password to remain private, do not set a new password in a public location or in view of other people. On all subsequent uses, the password characters will not be visible.

Do not access or edit any of the files contained in the hidden directory created by this program. Doing so may cause some or all of your hidden files to become corrupted and, for versions 0.9e and newer, the files may be flagged as externally modified and all further operation will be disabled.

Do not execute this program in any directory that contains a file named "µVault" or any directory by the same name. This will cause unwanted operation and may delete that file or folder without prompting.

This program should never be moved from its parent directory after it is executed. Doing so will cause previously hidden files to become inaccessible.

Any files or sub-folders currently in use by the system will still be packaged and hidden as is on exit, but will not deleted from the "µVault" folder. If the "µVault" folder still exists after the program has been closed and has finished operation, it should be deleted.

Even though the contents of the data folder are encrypted and cannot be read by any existing software, it should still remain hidden to avoid suspicion and tampering. It is strongly recommended that the "Hide protected operating system files" option in the "View" tab of "Folder Options" maintains its default active value while using this program.

If another file browser other than Windows Explorer is being used, the hidden folder will still be inaccessible, but likely visible. Since this folder will still need to exist, nothing can be done about this.

µVault is not created or intended as a high-security encryption software and is not suggested for commercial use.

Though no data has been corrupted by any of the released versions of this executable during testing, that does not mean that the unexpected cannot happen. It is a good idea to regularly back up any important files. The creator and any distributors of this program are not responsible for any loss of data or personal grievance that could result from unforeseen errors or misuse of this program.
