Currently OMP has two high-level branches (directly under microbial phenotype) for growth and reproduction phenotypes: 'growth'--the increase in size of an organism or part of an organism and 'reproduction'-- the increase in the number of organisms. This is consistent with how the terms are defined in GO.

However, in microbiology the word 'growth' is most commonly used to mean the increase in number of organisms in a population, although it is also used to refer to the incree in size of a single organism--the relevant definition is inferred from context. Already in OMP we have phenotypes related to population growth underneath the parent term 'growth phenotype.' We need to figure out a structure and term names that are consistent with other ontologies and still intuitive for microbiologists.

Jim suggested changing 'growth phenotype' to 'organismal growth phenotype' and reproduction phenotypeto 'population growth phenotype' (with reproduction phenotype as a synonym.
